How to get indexed RePEc in OJS and the benefits by indexed on RePEc

How OJS can get indexed in RePec?

What is RePEc?

RePEc is one of the collaborative efforts carried out by many countries in the world, RePEc bibliographic services are now very important for research papers in the economic and related sciences, with RePEc data such as authors, where articles are published, and whoever quotes will be collected into one database. RePEc is a schema for organizing metadata and making it available to the public domain, currently nearly 12,000,000 of which are available for download in full text. So-called RePEc services are then allowed to use this data to display the data to public, provided this is done freely. Several websites directly display data collected through RePEc, The most popular at present are IDEAS, Econ Papers, and Inomics. And not only that the data that has been collected by RePEc is sent through the Open Archives Initiative, so that more data will be available for some data needed for other indexing services that do not specialize in Economics, such as:

  1. Google Scholar
  2. Microsoft Academic Search
  3. ResearchGate
  4. EBSCO

What are the benefits by indexed on RePEc?

Considering that RePEc services are very important for research papers in economics and related sciences, we summarize some benefits you will get if your journal has been registered with RePEc, such as:

  1. Increase publication exposure.
  2. Add journal indexing to the other services.
  3. Increase potential citation.
  4. Get academic ranking analysis by RePEc.
  5. Improve journal commitment to the Open Access.
  6. Easier to be found an article on search engine.
  7. Prevent article plagiarism.

After briefly explaining about RePEc and some of the benefits that you get when registered on the RePEc service, we can conclude that the Journals indexed by RePEc have a special attraction for a prospective author. Many author always pay attention to indexing what has been registered in the journal, one of which is RePEc, this is an important consideration for them (the author) before publishing the manuscript to the journal. So that journals that have been indexed in RePEc will provide many benefits for author and journal managers themselves.

How to get indexed to RePEc

To be indexed to RePEc, we must have Archive code so that our journal / institution can be indexed by RePEc.

The steps are below.

However, if you are an author who wishes to submit an economic research paper but is not affiliated with any institution, you can publish it independently at the Munich Personal RePEc Archive service.

1. Get an Archive code

Every archive participating in RePEc needs a unique identifier, called handle. It is of the type RePEc:aaa, where aaa is a three letter string. You must request that a handle be assigned to your department or institution to ensure that there are no duplicates. To request a handle, please send an email to giving the name of your institution.

2. Prepare your server to host metadata

Make a configuration on your server so that Repec can retrieve the metadata that has been created, the RePEc archive can be located anywhere on your server as long as it is reachable over the web (http or https) or anonymous ftp (not sftp) but a good name for the directory might be RePEc /aaa/where aaa is your archive code (remember, the archive handle was RePEc: aaa). The rules for the layout of the archive are strict:

The two files in the directory aaa itself describe the archive. aaaarch.rdf contains the technical details, including the URL of the archive, and aaaseri.rdf describes the contents of the archive, i.e. the working paper series or journals you will be providing data for. For each series or journal there should be a subdirectory with a name matching the information in the aaaseri.rdf file.

3. Example create and fill in the ankarch.rdf file

Copy and change the code in below according to your journal identity

Template-Type: ReDIF-Archive 1.0
Handle: RePEc:aaa
Name: Department of Economics, Grandiose University
Description: This archive collects working papers from the Departments of Economics and Finance of Grandiose University, as well as from their Center for Important Research

4. Example create and fill in the ankseri.rdf file

Copy and change the code in below according to your journal identity

Template-Type: ReDIF-Series 1.0
Name: Working Papers
Provider-Name: Grandiose University, Department of Economics
Provider-Institution: RePEc:edi:degraus
Maintainer-Name: Helena Smith
Type: ReDIF-Paper
Handle: RePEc:aaa:wpaper

5. Example create and fill in the ankseri.rdf file

Article templates are in simple text files, like all templates, that have a .rdf extension. The rest of the file name doesn’t matter. These files needs to be in the series’ (journal’s) six letter directory. You can put all templates in one files, or one per file, or group them in files in various ways. Do whatever best suits your needs.

Copy and change the code in red below according to your journal identity

Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0
Author-Name: Andrew Beacon
Author-Name: Charlie Doe
Author-Workplace-Name: Some Big University
Author-Name: Engelbert Falafel
Author-Workplace-Name: Some Other University

How to automation generate file rdf

To make it easier for you to create published article data to automatically generate into an rdf file, you can use the plugins we have created. The advantages of this Repec plugin, you don’t need to do manual input to create/update data in the rdf file, this plugin also makes you avoid data input errors in the rdf file. so let the plugin do all the process automatically, to see more details about this plugin please click on the Repec Plugin.
