In journals made with the OJS platform, you often want to add specific information that is not provided by OJS, for example, you want to convey related to focus and scope, or some privacy policies in your journal. In OJS 3 this cannot be easily done by utilizing a plugin feature called a static page. In this article, we will explain on how to add the static page on OJS.
What is a static page? #
A static page is a web page whose content does not change frequently. The information displayed on a static page is not necessarily related to the data stored in the Open Journal Systems (OJS). These pages can be used to provide additional information that is not available in the standard OJS. In the context of a blog, a static page is similar to a post that can be created and filled with any content to provide extra information.
What is the use of a static page? #
Static pages or static pages also have a use, namely as a place where we fill in the content contained in it. Static pages of course also have a link address and also usually on the static page, it is used to fill in additional data or information. And because each page has its own special address/link, this is usually used by OJS web developers to create a destination for a menu that you have created in OJS.
You can add something like a focus and scope content, journal ethics, a page that explains privacy policy, or even the detail of the Editorial member.
How to make a static page in OJS? #
Here are the steps to create static pages:
1. Log in as Journal Manager and activate the Plugin
After the plugin is activated, you need to refresh the browser and you will find a new tab like this one :
2. After the plugin is activated, you can Click the Static page and click this button :
The page will show a modal popup like this one:
- Path: Static URL address (suggestion should not use “Space Character”)
- Title: The title of the created page
- Content: This section contains the content or information created from the page.
If everything is filled in, please just click Save.
If it is saved, static pages will not automatically appear. Next, to see the static pages that have been created, click on the Path section
If you want to change/edit you can click the arrow on the left and then select Edit.
You now have the URL location of the newly created static page by clicking the Path.
You can use this URL location on any menu by adding it to the Remote URL

Activating the newly created menu on the Main Navigation #
When you are creating a new menu, the menu won’t appear on the front page menu.
You need to add the menu either by adding the menu as the parent menu or the child menu from other menus.
Here is how you can do it:
1. On the same page, you go to the Navigation Menus section and select the small triangle to the left of the Primary Navigation Menu
Select Edit to show the list of the menu on the Main navigation menu section
